Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
AfriConnect USA (“we”, “us”, “the platform”) is a community for Africans and African Americans across the United States to connect, share, and grow together. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
When you register and use your account, we collect the information you choose to provide, which may include:
- Your name, username, and email address.
- Your profile photo (required at registration) and, optionally, a cover photo.
- Your country of origin, city, and state.
- Professional details you add — profession, title, organization, experience, services, skills, and website.
- A resume/CV, if you choose to upload one.
- Posts, comments, reactions, and messages you create on the platform.
- Basic technical information needed to keep you signed in and keep the service secure.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and operate your account and public profile.
- Power the member directory and search, so members can find and connect with one another.
- Deliver the community feed, comments, reactions, and private messages.
- Send you account and activity notifications (for example, a new message or a comment on your post).
- Keep the community safe, prevent abuse, and enforce our Community Guidelines.
3. What other members can see
Your profile is designed to help members connect, so some details are visible to others. You remain in control: from Edit profile → Privacy settings you can set who sees your email, phone, location, professional details, services, posts, and more — choosing between everyone, members only, or private. Your resume/CV has its own on/off switch, so you can display or hide it at any time. Contact details are shared only when you allow it.
4. Private messages stay private
Direct conversations between members are private. Administrators cannot read the content of your private messages — this is enforced in the platform itself, not just by policy. Please still use good judgment about what you share with other members.
5. Photos, resumes, and content you upload
Content you upload — photos, your resume, posts, and comments — is stored so it can be shown according to your visibility settings. If you delete content or your account, we remove it from the active platform. Anything you have shared publicly may have been seen or saved by others while it was visible.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We may share information only where necessary to run the service (for example, secure hosting), to comply with the law, or to protect the safety of our members and the community.
7. Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to keep your session secure. These are required for the platform to work and are not used to track you across other websites.
8. Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including secure password storage and access controls. No online service can be perfectly secure, so we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to keep your login details private.
9. Your choices and rights
You can review and update your information at any time from your profile, adjust your privacy settings, change your email or password from Account & security, and hide or remove content you have posted. If you would like to close your account or request deletion of your data, contact us using the details below.
10. Children
The platform is intended for adults. You must be 18 years or older to create an account. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify members.
